Dearly Devoted Dexter (Dexter book 2)

Dearly Devoted Dexter (Dexter, #2)

I am really enjoying this series. Anyone who knows me already knows how much I'm infatuated with the show, but I have to say, it is refreshing reading the series and seeing how the inspiration for the show came about.

In this second novel, Dexter is dealing with Sargent Doaks and his obsession and harassment. I found the serial kills in this book pretty freaking dark and hard to read through... even for me. I guess everyone has a limit, ha! I would say that the first book was better and the story stronger than this one, but I am just getting started - so we'll see what book 3 has to offer :)

Darkly Dreaming Dexter (Dexter book 1)

Darkly Dreaming Dexter (Dexter, #1)

A few weeks back while watching the TV Show "Dexter", I noticed on the opening credits "based on the novel 'Darkly Dreaming Dexter' by Jeff Lindsay. Needless to say, I immediately checked grabbed the entire series from my local library...

The first book was amazing! It was almost like watching the first season of the show all over again. Looking at it with a critical eye, and ignoring the fact that I knew the story before I started reading, I gathered that it was as dark as it sounds when  you first hear what it's about. Dexter is sharp, sarcastic, witty and smart and you can't help but immediately connect to his character (which might be a little disturbing, actually!).

I enjoyed it a lot because I didn't always know what was coming. The show deviated from it toward the end, which means I could be surprised by he twists and turns in the book. I loved it!

Lean Mean Thirteen

I read this one about a month ago and like the others, it was a quick mellow read. In book 13, Stephanie becomes the prime suspect of  ex-husband Dickie Orr's possible homicide. She was the last person seen with him, and she was screaming at him and making threats...

I always laugh look forward to reading about new ways that Janet Evanovich finds to put her characters in these crazy situations. Honestly, I have no idea how much longer she can make that last, or how many more random ideas she can come up with, but I'll probably be around to read them, lol. I don't really remember anything more about it, which I'm sure you're thinking isn't good, because it probably means the book wasn't great. I will say, it was good when I was reading it and I don't think it's the type of novel meant to have deep conversations about after the fact. I enjoy it because I always have a good laugh :)

Twelve Sharp

Now Reading:

I read this a little while ago, and my memory might be a bit fuzzy about the details. I think there are some fun surprises within this story. Starting with the woman dressed in black that has an interesting connection to Ranger.

I liked this story. It was good and funny enough, but I don't think I fell off my chair laughing as I usually do. I can't remember for sure what it was, but something bothered me about the case. I can't say much without revealing the ending, so I will leave it alone.

I think for the most part, it was okay, but again it wasn't as fun as the previous books. I think it might have been slightly darker than the norm as well - very unlike the Plum series - so that may be what didn't sit well with me. Idk, just a strange feeling about this all around. Sorry, Janet!

Eleven on Top

Ohhhh Stephanie Plum, how I've missed you! How can you not love this character? She has more issues than anyone anybody has ever known! I loved this book. It was the perfect way to return from a very long Plum hiatus.

In this story, Steph decides she is done with bounty-hunting... figures that it would not be done with her. As always, Lula was hilarious and grandma Mazur was up to no good. All the characters were back in action once again and I didn't get a chance to miss anyone like last time.

*Mini-Spoiler*

I enjoyed having another glimpse at Ranger's world and his operations. It would be interesting if it became a second or part time gig for Stephanie, but I don't know who would handle the tension and electricity, ha! Also, someone should have those RangeMan shirts made. I'd buy one, hahaha :)
