This was a very fun and interesting read for me. We got introduced to Dr. Isles in the beginning, but the story not about her at all. It's a story about a woman who finds bones in the garden of her new home. The person had lived in a different time so Julia tries to find out more about them.
I was definitely not expecting the parallel between the two worlds when I started this book. I thought it would be about the bones, and that person's death but it turns out it was about their life. I did not mind the switch between present day and the 1830s because the stark contrast of how people lived and interacted is incredible. I loved the characters and grew so attached to them I didn't want the story to end!
